Every seminary has its own unique heartbeat, values and distinctives. At Baptist Bible Seminary, our six distinctives will serve you well as you prepare for a life of ministry for Jesus Christ. This month, we highlight a Christ-centered and church-focused theological education.
At BBS, our theological education is centered on Christ and equips you to serve Him. Through Bible and theology courses you will learn the “big picture” plotline of Scripture and each individual book’s contribution. You will gain skill in theological method, learning how to interpret, correlate and integrate biblical truth to teach God’s people to observe all that Christ has commanded us (Matt 28:20).
Scripture reveals God’s plan to dwell with His people in perfect fellowship forever. By studying the books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, we can trace that plan from creation to consummation in the new heavens and new earth. God created all things very good and made Adam and Eve to enjoy fellowship with Him and to rule creation as His image bearers. Through the serpent’s deception, they sinned and brought a curse and death upon themselves and the world. Yet God promised to one day crush the serpent through the seed of the woman (Gen 3:15). Scripture recounts how, “when the fullness of the time came” (Gal 4:4), God brought that Seed into the world, His Son, the Messiah, Jesus, to defeat Satan, sin and death, and to restore fellowship between lost humanity and a holy God, so that God and His people could enjoy a perfect relationship forevermore.
Each paragraph, chapter, book and testament of Scripture contributes to this story line. Great skill and care are needed to navigate successfully through the steps of Bible study to grasp all that God has spoken to us and to teach that truth to God’s people. A BBS education will help you gain that skill. You will learn to interpret—to draw out the meaning from passages and paragraphs. You will acquire skill in biblical theology—gathering and correlating the doctrinal content of individual books and sections in their historical context. And you will become proficient in systematic theology—synthesizing truth from the whole Bible on major themes, integrating truth claims from outside the Bible using inerrant Scripture as the proper filter, culminating in the development of a truly Christian worldview for practical application.
At BBS you will learn how God is working in and through all things, peoples and events—the world, His chosen nation Israel, His church, all the nations, angels elect and evil, and all of history—to bring glory to Himself and good to His people. And you will discover what it means to serve this great God and His Son Jesus Christ and to build up His church until He comes again to make all things right!
