Bible Reading Plans for Easter

Published April 6, 2017

“Use a day-to-day reading of Jesus’ last days as it is recorded in the Gospel of Mark. The readings go from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. It would be a great way to meditate upon the resurrection throughout the week. It also would be a great family devotion time. We have done this a number of times as a family.”
Dr. Wayne Slusser, Assistant Seminary Dean
and Associate Professor of New Testament

Dr. Slusser’s Easter Reading Plan Through the Gospel of Mark:

Sunday (Palm Sunday) – Mark 11:1-11 (Entrance into Jerusalem, Triumphal Entry)

Monday–Mark 11:12-19 (The Fig Tree and Cleansing the Temple)

Tuesday–Mark 11:20-33 (Discussion with the disciples)

Wednesday–Mark 13:1-37 (Olivet Discourse)

Thursday–Mark 14:1-72 (Passover, Last Supper, Gethsemane, Betrayal, Arrest and Trial)

Friday (Good Friday)–Mark 15:1-47 (Roman Trial, Crucifixion)

Saturday–Mark 15:42-47 (Burial)

Sunday (Easter)–Mark 16:1-8 (Resurrection)

“We encouraged our church people to read and meditate on readings for Holy Week, beginning on Palm Sunday and going through Easter Sunday. These readings focus the events of Christ’s last week leading to His death and resurrection.”
Dr. Ken Pyne, Associate Professor, Seminary Chaplain and Director of Internships and M.Div. Adviser

Reading Plan from Dr. Pyne’s Church

The week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday is considered the most significant week of the year for Christian worship. During this week we remember the events of Christ’s passion and death. Our attention should especially be directed to Jesus Christ—the Lamb of God, Suffering Servant and Savior of the World. Marvel at the love of God shown in Jesus. Rejoice at the victory we have through Christ’s death and resurrection! Consider the following readings to guide you through the events of Holy Week.
